Level Design
I worked on Crown Wars as a level designer.
The game's levels are divided into two types:
-
The main missions.
Levels are handcrafted by level designers and artists to add narrative elements during the mission. This also allows more memorable missions at the end of each chapter.

-
The secondary missions.
Levels are procedurally generated. For each one, a biome is randomly selected (villages, camps, forests, etc.) and then a random version of this biome is generated. This allows for an infinite number of secondary levels in the game.

My tasks
I worked mostly on procedural secondary missions.
-
My main task was to create and implement data presets respecting the LD rules already defined to obtain the desired environments.
-
I had to make sure that the result of each generation was credible and relevant in terms of gameplay. This implies that the levels are interesting from a strategic point of view (sufficient heights, sufficient cover and well-spread enemies) and also that all the LD rules already established are respected.
-
I also helped design some of the procedural system's features.
